Why are we Patterson’s community?
This website, Patterson’s Community, was born from a family legacy of service, education, and love.
It was founded in honor of Oscar and Carolyn Patterson, pillars of Muskegon Heights, who owned and operated Patterson’s Pharmacy for 44 years. Their lives were dedicated to helping others and building a stronger, healthier community.
Today, Patterson’s Community carries that mission forward in a new way—by helping you build financial peace, take better care of yourself, and create a legacy that lasts for generations.
We focus on budgeting that works in real life, self-care that saves you money, and generational wealth that starts with simple habits. Every article, worksheet, and printable is designed to help you build confidence, care for your household, and change your financial future one step at a time.
Welcome to the community.

Our Story
Oscar and Carolyn Patterson opened Patterson’s Pharmacy in July 1976.
They are both long-time residents of Muskegon Heights and alumni of Muskegon Heights High School.
Their children, Darwin and Cynthia, are also pharmacists (pictured).
The business remained family-owned and operated with many generations working together to serve the communities of Muskegon and Muskegon Heights, Michigan.
Knowledge is Power
For 44 years, members of the community would stop by the soda fountain at Patterson’s Drug Store to discuss the topics of the day. The discussions may have moved online, but the urgency to build and empower our communities still exists.
